I am having trouble with citing things from the web. I use the template for web citing and fill everything in, but once I preview my work all of the references show up red stating that I am missing stuff that I have filled in. Any tips on how to fix this problem? --Brebre143 (talk) 23:36, 30 August 2019 (EDT)

@Brebre143: First, always link to where your problem is, so I can look and don't have to ask. On your journal, your LeGuin reference capitalized "Location" and it should be "location." This is the issue with your other refs, too. No capital letters in the citation elements. (I also tweaked your formatting. Please use paragraphs.) —Grlucas (talk) 08:02, 31 August 2019 (EDT)

If you go down to my resources page (Daisja30 journal) you can see that there's an error with my citations. I have been trying to use previous references for new journal but when I use the code, for example, <ref name=":0" /> , it is not working. Is this the wrong code?--Daisja30 (talk) 14:10, 8 September 2019 (EDT)

@Daisja30: If you defined that code previously, it will work. I'll check out your journal. —Grlucas (talk) 10:53, 9 September 2019 (EDT)

Replying and Commenting

I was wondering, how do we respond or comment on our classmates’ journals? Should we do this through the discussion page? I just wanted to be clear before I started commenting.--Daisja30 (talk) 13:06, 31 August 2019 (EDT)

@Daisja30: Good question. Reply directly on the journal as if you were posting to a talk page. —Grlucas (talk) 16:56, 31 August 2019 (EDT)

Amber Smith

--Ambersmith5 (talk) 09:26, 9 September 2019 (EDT)- I am trying to figure out how to edit the font of my journal. I have looked through every editing tool and still have not found the font editing tool. Grlucas

@Ambersmith5: It is unnecessary to change fonts. Please don't. Thanks. —Grlucas (talk) 10:50, 9 September 2019 (EDT)

Video Episodes

I have been struggling to find a video version of the episode "Jose Chung's from Outer Space". Has anyone found one yet? --D.Sams96 (talk) 19:39, 18 September 2019 (EDT)

References and Citing

I have found the resource [1]listed where our journals are and have started going back to previous journals to make corrections. I have been correcting my references but I can not get the retrieved date to tack on to the links. For example in my journal [2] in the reference section I used the # sign and the other was created when I used the ref tag correctly but the retrieved date did not follow.

@TSmith2020: First off, here's the correct way to link to your journal. Next, you need to sign your posts on talk pages. I'm not sure I see the issue with your retrieved dates. —Grlucas (talk) 08:47, 22 September 2019 (EDT)

Citing References with Two Authors

What's the best way to cite a reference with two authors? I've updated the references section to look like the example in lesson 4, so I was wondering the best way to cite it in the bibliography and in the citations section. Thanks in advance! Hthrxlynn (talk) 22:13, 19 September 2019 (EDT)

@Hthrxlynn: See Template:Cite book for an explanation. —Grlucas (talk) 08:47, 22 September 2019 (EDT)

Citing with Bibliography & Citations

I'm having some trouble with my citations for my bibliography. It shows that I have errors within the citation, and I was wondering how I can fix this problem going forward.Brebre143 Thanks! Brebre143 (talk) 03:25, 20 September 2019 (EDT)

@Brebre143: It seems like you're trying to use a name for a citation that does not exist, like <ref name="FOOTNOTEPhilip K. Dick Reviews2014">. —Grlucas (talk) 08:51, 22 September 2019 (EDT)

Trouble With Date Values

It keeps saying I have a date mismatch when I am attempting to cite my sources, but I have the format correct. I do not know what to do. Is anyone else having this issue?

@Shannamartini: Sorry for your trouble. Where are you having this issue? I'll have a look. —Grlucas (talk) 14:35, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
@Grlucas: It is with the final 4 citations in my list (there are 6 total, and the first two are fine). I also sent you an email to your MGA email Dr. Lucas, I do not know if you have read it yet. —Shannamartini(talk) 17:25, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
@Shannamartini: I see. You must use full dates, like August 23, 2019, not abbreviations. I fixed your third source for you, but you're doing great! Keep practicing, and you'll be an expert in no time. —Grlucas (talk) 10:55, 26 August 2019 (UTC)

Citing Source Twice

I remember reading somewhere on your website about how to cite a source more than once, but I cannot seem to relocate it. The only issue remaining with my sources is that I have two that are repeated and it is notifying me of this very angrily in red. In addition, I know that this Lesson 4 for this week begins with the Bibliography explanation and format; are we supposed to redo our references in this way? Shannamartini (talk) 15:56, 21 September 2019 (UTC)

@Shannamartini: Yes, I recommend you change your citation method. If you do, that should answer your first question. —Grlucas (talk) 12:13, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

References: ISBN not linked, Fixing errors?

@Grlucas: When referencing books, the word "ISBN" is shown in red and is not appropriately linked, with the ISBN number following it. How do I fix this? Hthrxlynn (talk) 20:01, 25 September 2019 (EDT)

@Hthrxlynn: You can fix it by adding a page that defines ISBN or not including ISBN. The latter would be easier, as the ISBN is really not that helpful. —Grlucas (talk) 06:13, 8 October 2019 (EDT)

Are we allowed to fix errors that other students make on our journal to make it look better? Hthrxlynn (talk) 23:52, 7 October 2019 (EDT)

@Hthrxlynn: Yes, it's your journal so it is ultimately your responsibility. You can also point out their mistakes. —Grlucas (talk) 06:13, 8 October 2019 (EDT)

Journal Posts

I have been trying to make a journal post since yesterday and when I try, It keeps giving me the 403 error. I have left my post in my sandbox for now since I an unable to out them in my journal. MGray1196 (talk) 10:46, 30 September 2019 (EDT)

@MGray1196: I see nothing in your sandbox. Were you able to get these to work? —Grlucas (talk) 06:15, 8 October 2019 (EDT)
@Grlucas: You have already solved this issue for me.

Lesson 6

I'm having trouble finding the reading for this weeks lesson. Is it suppose to be in the Google Drive or do we have to find it ourselves? Brebre143 (talk) 20:16, 2 October 2019 (EDT)

@Brebre143: Sorry about that. The Butler story is there now if you still need it. —Grlucas (talk) 06:35, 8 October 2019 (EDT)

Citing the episodes

The template for citing episodes is not working. Is there an updated template we should be using?--Daisja30 (talk) 16:34, 21 October 2019 (EDT)
